Would your development program benefit from a fluid bed coater/drier that can work with a few tablets or 1-20g of spheroids (pellets)?


The smallest fluid-bed coater/driers require a minimum of about 500g of material to work effectively.

With the Caleva Mini Coater/drier-2 it is possible to coat and dry as little as a single tablet or a few grams of spheroids.

The coater/drier is designed as a compact and robust unit that is simple to operate.

Although primarily designed for use in the pharmaceutical industry the Caleva mini coater/drier can also satisfy other applications such as coating granules with catalytic material, coating of fluid filled gelatine capsules, coating of chocolate shapes and other confectionery. 

It is the ideal apparatus for trial and development work.

The Caleva Fluid-bed tablet and spheroid coater is a small-scale fluid-bed drier/spray film coater.  

Typical batch size ranges from 1 to 20g (A single tablet can be coated or as little as a few grams of spheroids or pharmaceutical pellets).

A few tablets can be coated with a high quality coat for development and experimental work.

In pharmaceutical development tablets and spheroids can be coated for several reasons such as:-

·   To modify and control the release of active ingredient (controlled or modified release)

·   To enable the mixed presentation of otherwise incompatible formulations

As well as:-

·   To mask taste or odour

·   To improve appearance

·   To facilitate identification

·   To facilitate swallowing

·   To protect the core from light or moisture to improve stability

 

Development and experimental work often benefits from the ability to produce small quantities of coated tablets or spheroids (pellets). This is particularly useful when experimental material is in short supply or is of high value. Both these situations are common in the early stages of drug development or during research to develop new formulations or coatings.

 

With its ability to apply a high quality coating to very small quantities of tablets (as little as a single tablet) or spheroids the Caleva spray coater/drier is ideal for this situation.


Output and productivity

 

Spraying and drying a sample of tablets or spheroids normally takes about 15 minutes of spray time.

 

This might vary with different coating materials and with the thickness of the coating required.

 

By increasing the length of the spray period thicker coatings can be easily be applied.

  


Available options

The apparatus is complete and additional options are not necessary.

 

The magnetic stirrer shown in the picture above is not normally supplied as most laboratories will already have this type of apparatus. If required Caleva can supply this with the mini coater drier.
